About Circa

CIRCA transforms the way we interact with public space, bringing urgent messages of hope and change to the places once dedicated to stimulating consumer desires. 2020 was a year in which we all pressed pause. Now we want to continue the habit, stopping time to bring a moment’s reflection to one of the busiest commercial spaces on earth, cutting through the corporate ad space with a human voice.

By creating a dialogue between artists and the public, we’re shifting the tone of the billboard, building connections and a sense of community. Our mission is bold but clear, laid bare in our manifesto that is designed to grow and expand as our project evolves. That’s because CIRCA is a living, breathing thing, sensitive to the world around it and the public that it serves.

Ai Weiwei Circa 20:20

Ai Weiwei presented 30 video works at the Piccadilly Lights in London. During the entire month of October 2020, one video played each evening at 20:20. The video works are an episodic narrative about Weiwei’s art and activism.

Ai Weiwei Circa 20:20 is made as an intervention in the public square and online.
